Be it for a German, French, Arab or Indian national, the drapes and silhouettes on the apparel creatively designed by Abida Rasheed are as stunning as the fabrics she sells.
Mixing colours and experience, Abida has followed her own style in textiles. This is evident from her products at Abi’s Sari Sellers in Kozhikode. Abida’s quality and uniqueness have ensured that she has a regular clientele, mostly global, visiting her shop near Tagore Centenary Hall.
“I usually conduct fabric exhibitions at Doha, Dubai and Qatar several times a year and have lots of customers there. Besides, I have customers from most parts of the country. Several foreigners from Germany and France visit my boutique and they order specially designed fabrics to be sent to their native places,” says Abida.
Those who enter the shop are greeted by a variety of designer saris, lehangas, chudidhars, kurtis, crepe and tussar silk. “All the pieces I sell are handpicked by me from across India.” she says. Abida started the tailoring shop when she came back from Dubai around 25 years ago.
Abida also excels in culinary skills, especially in traditional Malabar Mappila cuisine. She is currently working as chief consultant chef, Malabar cuisine, for the Taj group. She also conducts seasonal food festivals world-over.
