During World War II, the Nazis tried to teach dogs to read, speak and spell to win the war. The Germans rounded up educated dogs and had a special school to train them to speak and communicate with their masters. Hitler thought they would be able to assist in winning the war. The experiment was called Wooffan SS. It was said that one dog said Mein Fuhrer and that another enjoyed religion and poetry. Some of the dogs are recorded as having mastered foreign language and communicated by tapping out the alphabet with their paws.
