Taken by surprise at the ‘Chandradandu’ of Telu-gu Desam president N. Chandrababu Naidu, the Telangana Joint Action Committee (TJAC) and its affiliates are now keeping their plans secret on how to obstruct YSR Congress president Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy’s 48-hour fast that will begin from Tuesday at Armoor in Nizamabad district. Though the ‘defense’ may be a secret, the TJAC and several organisations have given a bandh call and have announced plans of mass protests demanding a favourable statement from Mr Jagan Mohan Reddy on Telangana.
The Osmania University Students JAC led a march in the campus on Monday and burnt his effigy demanding that the MP must declare his party's stand on the Telangana issue and communicate this to Union home minister P. Chidambaram. Besides, a protest rally was also held in Armoor town against his visit. Leaving the decision on the Centre, the YSR Congress had, during its maiden plenary session, stated it will neither oppose nor support the Telangana statehood demand. Earlier, Mr Jagan Mohan Reddy had held a placard in the Lok Sabha, supporting united AP.
On his part, Mr Jagan Mohan Reddy held consultations with his party leaders from Telangana to review arrangements for the fast. Former minister S. Santosh Reddy, who was earlier in the Congress and the TRS, met Mr Jagan Mohan Reddy and conveyed his desire to join the YSR Congress. Mr Santosh Reddy said that he will formally join the party at Armoor.
