Former India football captain Bhaichung Bhutia to get a farewell with a friendly against European giants Bayern Munich - on Tuesday at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium in New Delhi.

Bhutia came out of retirement in 2006 to lead the national team to three international titles till hanging up his international boots last August.

The iconic player said the retirement this time was final and he wants to contribute at grass roots with the Bhaichung Bhutia Football School (BBFS) and club United Sikkim.

Frustrated with injuries Bhutia retired from international football last year in August, seven months after India's disastrous Asian Cup campaign.

"Very happy to retire this time. If needed I shall always be there for the team but this time I don't see reason why the team needs me," said Bhutia.

"To qualify for the Asian Cup after winning the AFC Challenge Cup remains the most memorable part of my career," Bhutia said.

"I will keep contributing to Indian football in my own way, with BBFS and United Sikkim," the footballer told the media.

Bhutia captained India for more than 10 years and scored 43 international goals, more than any other footballer in the country.

Bhutia is also the only Indian and one among few international players to have played more then 100 matches for his country.

Also owns the record for most goals in a single match in the National Football league. He scored 5 goals JCT Mills against Mahindra United (1997).

When he signed up to play for the English club Bury in 1999, he became the first Indian footballer to play professional football in Europe.

Bhutia has a football stadium named after him in honour of his contribution to Indian football (first player to have such honour while he is still playing).

The most recognisable face of Indian football, Bhutia has during his 16-year career been decorated with the Arjuna Award and the Padma Shri.
