Crude comedy spoils this family entertainer

Sa...Boo...three

Cast: Arshad Khan, Prajin, Akshay, Pinky, Sara and Ujjayinee
Director: Arshad Khan
Rating: **

Debut director Arshad Khan has tried his hand at making a movie that narrates the romantic escapades of youth in a cosmopolitan city.

Besides directing the film, Arshad Khan has also played the lead role, along with some lesser-known actors.

Interestingly, Arshad Khan has been heavily inspired by Farhan Akhtar's Dil Chahta Hai. Unfortunately the sophistication in those Bollywood movies is sadly missing here.

Sa...Boo...Three is crammed with crude comedy and double entendres, to the extent that it can cause embarrassment if one is watching the film with family members. Arshad plays a college student, while popular television anchor Prajin, singer Ujjayinee, actress Mithuna and others form the rest of the cast.

The story: Pal (Arshad Khan), Keerthy (Prajin) and Akshay (Bala) are friends who live in the same apartment complex in Chennai. Pal is obsessed with older women, while Akshay loves Sherin (Pinky) who’s from a different caste. Keerthy and Jo (Sara) are a married couple but don’t see eye-to-eye.

Akshay meets Lekha (Mithuna), with whom his parents have arranged a match. He falls in love with her. Keerthy and Jo find online friends and spend all their time chatting and sharing special moments with them. Pal comes across an older woman Philomina (Ujjayinee) and decides to propose to her.

What ultimately happens in their lives forms the climax of the film. Arshad Khan seems to have imitated a popular actor, but has done his part well. He looks comfortable before the camera, so does Prajin. The film lacks logic in many places, especially in the scene where Bala changes his mind all of a sudden and starts inexplicably falling for Lekha even though he’s still in love with Sherin.

Produced by Rajesh Khanna, the film has music by Abbas Rafi. Had the filmmaker avoided the double-meaning dialogues and made the script crisper, it could have been more entertaining.
