Ancient constructions were found in the Handri river near Lakshminagar village in Kallur mandal of Kurnool district on Thursday.

Ancient constructions were found in the Handri river near Lakshminagar village in Kallur mandal of Kurnool district on Thursday.

People illegally digging sand in the river found a huge timber log, and some more logs when they dug deep.

Kallur tahsildar Anjana Devi and Ulindakonda sub-inspector Subrahmanyam reached the area to prevent illegal sand transport.

They informed RDO Mr Venkata Murali about the timber logs. Mr Murali reached the spot and ensured further digging in the area.

At the bottom of the sand, rectangular timber logs and huge boulders on them were found. The RDO handed these to archaeology department officials for study.

Speaking on the occasion, Mr Murali said that a temple was constructed on Jagannatha Gattu near the spot during the rule of Sri Krishnadevaraya and the construction might belong to the temple.

Some villagers said that floodwater flowed in the Handri river and constructions were not possible here.

They said that there were fruit orchards in the river during summer and the constructions might be those built by watchmen of the orchards. Archaeology department officials visited the area and are gearing up for further investigation.
