Namma Bengaluru is going the Delhi and Mumbai way this New Year eve. For the first time, the local transport corporations have decided to operate till 3 am on New Year’s eve. Along with Namma Metro, Bangalore Metropolitan Transport Corporation (BMTC) has also extended its timings.
Forget private cabs that will rip you off by demanding exorbitant fares to give you a drop back home. Transport authorities have a master plan in place to help the public get back home after the parties organised across the city are over.
“Since the Metro has planned to extend operations till 2 am on January 1, we also decided to do the same. It is not possible to deploy all the 6,000 vehicles that BMTC has, but we will run a few dedicated services to important locations. We will run the buses till the crowd on the roads is there. We aim to ensure safe travel for Bengalureans by extending our operation timings,” said BMTC chief traffic manager (operation), M.P. Prabhu Das. About 90 schedules have been decided by BMTC with frequent trips to transport people. Both Big-10 and Metro feeder buses will be running till 3 am on New Year.
