The Friday fiasco at Gurgaon is not something anyone will forget in the near future.
Angry crowds vandalised the Metallica concert venue, wrecked equipment worth lakhs after organisers announced the event would be postponed. The event had to be cancelled eventually.
Even as the virtual world erupted in anger and shock at the turn of events, maybe it’s time for us evaluate some aspects of mob mentality.
Chartered Accountant Vivek Raghavan says, “Just because the gig was postponed, how can you justify this unruly behaviour? The event organisers have completely messed it up and there were hardly any cops to monitor the chaos!” Fans are irate and disgruntled as they have worked around their calendars to accommodate a trip to New Delhi.
Restaurant owner Carlton Braganza says, “The ticket itself costs `3,000 and at this time of the year, flight tickets cost me nothing less than `15,000.
I have friends who have travelled all the way from London, Italy and Latvia to watch Metallica! This is such a waste of time, energy and money.
” MBA graduate Sanskriti, booked her tickets a month back, took time off classes and work to attend the concert, “This is a complete waste of my money! I can’t even catch the performance in Bengaluru because there are no flights out anytime.
I’m extremely disappointed. I’ve waited all my life to watch these guys perform.” The concert venue was vandalised, as crowds threw bottles and broke a barricade. They jumped on the stage, tore down posters, broke lights and LED screens.
The damage to the equipment was well over two crores. This is reflective of undue aggression and anger. Sociologist Rajesh K, remarks, “This is more of a generational issue.
People today are not patient enough to understand the constraints of organisers at events like this. Strict measures need to be taken to ensure law and order, and the wrong doers must be punished.”
