Neutral powers could stem Berlin crisis

New York, July 17: Senator James Fulbright, chairman of the Senate foreign relations committee, considers that neutral nations could play a great part in stemming the Berlin crisis, the New York Times reported today.

In an interview with the paper published today, Senator Fulbright, a Democrat, called upon the neutral nations of Asia and Africa to speak firmly and with a united voice in defence of all peoples’ right to self-determination.

If they would “insist in the United Nations and other meetings that they want both sides to respect the right of people to determine their own form of society,” this might have “a restraining influence upon the aggressive tendencies of the Communist world,” he declared.
