R&B minister’s son issued notice

The Andhra Pradesh High Court on Thursday issued notice to the state government and Mr D. Manohar Naidu, son of the roads and buildings minister, Mr D. Prasad Rao, on a petition seeking a direction to suspend quarry lease granted in favour of Ms Virgin Rock (Pvt) Ltd. owned by Mr D. Ram Manohar Naidu in Srikakulam district.

Mr S. Mukhalingham, sarpanch of the village, filed the writ stating that the revenue and mines and geology department authorities granted lease to the minister’s son without following procedures and without a resolution from the gram sabha.

The bench granted three weeks to the respondents file their counter affidavits on the plea.
The court also issued notice to the state in another plea seeking a direction to conduct audit of accounts for the last five years of all the private unaided schools in the state immediately and submit a report to the court.

HC stays transfer of NMDC cleaners

Justice K.C. Bhanu on Thursday stayed the transfer of 14 senior cleaners and helpers of Sponge Iron Unit of the NMDC from Paloncha to Panna in Madhya Pradesh.

The judge interdicted the transfer order, contrary to common practice when it was pointed out that the transfer order was issued when the union and the management were in the process of conciliation of a industrial dispute on the same issue. They pointed out that the law prohibits transfers pending conciliation proceedings.

Plea on PR polls adjourned

Justice Noushad Ali adjourned the hearing to Friday on a plea questioning the action of the state government in not conducting the elections the panchayat raj local bodies.

Mr K. Nageswara Rao, chairperson of the Krishna District Zilla Parishad, and seven others approached the HC contending that the indecision over reservations was not an excuse to postpone the elections.

The advocate-general, Mr A. Sudarshan Reddy, told the judge that a division bench had stayed the elections and the GO providing 61 per cent reservations to SC, ST and Backward Classes.

HC turns down plea on cops in OU

The High Court on Thursday refused to grant permission for a lunch motion moved by a practicing advocate Ms G. Jyothi Kiran, seeking a direction to declare the action of the police as illegal in blocking the entrance of the Osmania University campus and resorting to arrests on the suspicion of visiting the campus.

The court asked the petitioner to file the plea in routine course and it will examine the issue.
