Documents seized by the Special Intelligence Branch indicate that the Maoists belonging to the People’s Liberation Guerrilla Army have decided to spare passengers and express trains but target goods trains.
The decision not to target passengers has been taken because it has a negative impact on the image of the movement, the documents seized by the Special Intelligence Branch of the An-dhra-Odisha border shows.
Police, however, said targeting only goods trains by removing the fish plates or blowing up the tracks will affect other trains too, as it is difficult to single out goods trains on busy tracks.
The CPI Maoists have two battalions in Dandakaranya. The documents suggest that Maoists will attack with a battalion of the PLGA if the Army or Rashtriya Rifles are deployed in the area.
A senior Intelligence officer said: “They have decided to attack weaker units of police forces. They have decided on higher level operations like destroying two platoons or one company of a police force.”
There are 15 companies in each battalion and each company has three platoons. Each platoon may have 30 Maoists.
As the police can neutralise the top Maoist leaders by collecting intelligence about their travel plans, place of operation and workplace, Maoists have asked them to be cautious.
