New Delhi, Nov. 23: The reported findings of the Liberhan Commission report is likely to hit the Samajwadi Party in UP, which recently snapped its tactical alliance with the former BJP leader, Mr Kalyan Singh, as the party appears to be in a spot over defending its earlier ties with Mr Singh, who has been indicted by the report for his involvement in the demolition of the Babri Masjid.

The SP leaders sense that the Congress has got a trump card in the form of the Liberhan to woo Muslims in UP, which goes to polls in 2012. After the Muslim vote base deserted the party in the recent by-elections in the state, the SP leadership appears reconciled to the fact that its efforts to win back the confidence of the minority support base have been blunted by the leak of the Liberhan Commission report.

“With the expelled leader, Mr Azam Khan, already having launched a tirade against the party for alliance with the indicted former BJP leader, Mr Kalyan Singh, much damage has already been done,” stated a senior SP functionary.
