The Vijayawada Congress MP, Mr Lagadapati Rajagopal, on Tuesday withdrew his fast-unto-death citing that his fast was causing inconvenience to the other patients at Nims.
"On December 19 they had administered saline, so in effect, the fast was broken then," he said.
Mr Rajgopal said he would restart the fast in Visakhapatnam if the government did not announce a statement in favour of united Andhra on Tuesday.
Meanwhile, the TD legislator, Mr D. Umamaheswar Rao, was "very weak" and unable to speak on Tuesday as his indefinite fast in support of a united Andhra Pradesh entered the 10th day.
"Umamaheswar Rao is not able to speak. He is very weak but stable," doctors attending on him at the NRI hospital in Mangalagiri's Guntur district said. The TD MLA was forcibly shifted few days ago from Vijayawada to the hospital after his condition showed signs of deteriorating.
Rallies and road blockades continued in the state and several other leaders, who were on fast across the Rayalseeema and Coastal Andhra regions, continued their protests.

It is not worthwhile to argue that Lagadapati has no right to go on hunger strike in Hyderabad since it is not his own place. How can it be justiciable? In this context it is worthwhile to remember that oncee KCR went on hunger strike in Jantar Mantar, New Delhi. Is it New Delhi is his own place?
What is the need of Mr Lagadapati to come to Hyderabad and join NIMS when government, the caretaker of law, clearly asked him to stay in Vijayawada? He created a big law and order problem in the state. What he wants to prove by coming to Hyderabad? Is it fair if KCR wants to fast in Vijayawada !! I think he got serious note from central home ministry to stop acting like a buffoon otherwise there will be serious problem for him. I have never seen such an irritating and selfish fellow like Lagadapati. Shame on you being a member of Parlament and my heart goes for the people who elected you as their representative.
This shows that there is some kind of backtracking from the center. The latest reaction shows that there is some definite assurance given to the MPs and other leaders who are fasting and/or protesting. The AP govt is preparing, behind scenes, to put most of the police in Telangana regions and preparing for some kind of police action. I am sure this will remind us of the days during the emergency. People of Telangana should start non-coperation and other non-violent means if they have to protest because of this backtracking. Our freedom fighters have shown us the path of non-violent way of achieving freedom against the mighty force of Britishers. If Telangana is the will of the people of Telangana, they should use this non-violent method to achieve it and not burn public/private properties, killing self or others etc. This is our India, and if we want to achieve Telangana, it will be done. Only thing is it will take time for it. The most important factor is to stay unified in your struggle for Telangana.
Gaining fame is the plan behind it. This Lagadapati should be arrested immediately, for creating hurdles. Why can't he fast at home or local hospital and why in Hyderabad? Everyone knows. He is acting as if he is really fasting. People now can't differentiate what's right and what's wrong. Dont try to act smart.
Lagadapati made two statements in regards to reasons for breaking the fast. Is he really truthful in saying that? Well, let's not debate on that: Most important learnings, Firstly don;t fall prey to politicians who preach Gandhian philosophy, fasting, and in practice do differently. Yes, Lagadapati is right, he is healthy and did fast truthfully till 19th Dec and no one would have stopped him to continue his fast. He didn't take recourse to blackmailing Centre for making a statement. He is above all the drama of having orange juice and being a media icon. Let us differentiate between leaders who play on past and who are looking into the future. Lagadapati is the one for the future.
Secondly, caring for patients at NIMS, he realised and corrected himself and withdrew his fast. I don't want to question integrity in this decision. Now atleast other leaders shouldn't take this path to gain visibility at the cost of health care for common man.
We have another leader that I have been seeing in the media who is showing backwardness and never wants to look into the future. Claims of past glory will give them great satisfaction for taking weak persons on their side to exploit them for their vested interests. This will not give food, shelter and cloth for a common man. Let us all realise this and wherever we are, correct ourselves and stop belittling each other. It is a shame to see Telugu pride getting battered day in day out for last few days.
Fasting has become a quick diet programme for politicians. We must make it mandatory that they fast five days every six months. They would atleast lose those extra pounds and will know what hunger is.
