Officer kills youth for having an affair with his daughter

A Meghalaya government officer has allegedly killed a 26-year-old youth for having an affair with his daughter, police sources said on Thursday.

The assistant horticulture officer, Mr Wilki Syieminong, killed Julius Marbaniang at Mawdiangdiang on Wednesday, the sources said.

Syieminong followed Julius on Wednesday morning and pulled him into his vehicle near Lad Nongkrem. He then assaulted Julius inside a forest and threw him from a hill top into Umsawli river. On seeing that he was still alive, the officer rushed to the youth and strangulated him, sources said.

Later, the officer was arrested. In his confessional statement to the police, he said: "I am happy that I have eliminated a person who was a threat to the society. Now, I would not regret being put behind the bars since I was able to save my family from the evils of this notorious character."

Syieminong's driver was also arrested for complicity in the murder.

Police suspect that the victim had developed a close relationship with the officer's daughter, a reason that prompted him to take the step.
