Maoist guerrillas killed three people and injured two others in Orissa's Rayagada district, police said on Wednesday.
"As per our information, Maoists killed three people late on Tuesday. About 45-50 armed Maoists had come to the village late night and killed these people. They were speaking in Telugu," Superintendent of Police Ashish Singh said.
According to the police, some encounters had taken place between the rebels and the police in the last few months. "By killing these innocent people, the rebels were retaliating against the police," an officer said.
Pandratola village where the Maoist guerrillas killed the three people is near the Andhra Pradesh border and about 350 km from Bhubaneswar.
