Ex-Miss Argentina dies from cosmetic surgery
London: Former Miss Argentina lost her life after going under the knife to get firmer buttocks.
Solange Magnano, 38, who was crowned Miss Argentina in 1994, died of pulmonary embolism after undergoing a gluteoplasty in Buenos Aires.
It is normally routine procedure, which involves placing implants in the buttocks to give them a firmer outline.
According to Roberto Piazza, a close friend, the procedure involved injections and the liquid "went to her lungs and brain."
"This woman who had everything is dead because she wanted to have a slightly firmer behind," The Times quoted Piazza, as saying.
Magnano underwent the cosmetic surgery on November 26, but was rushed to hospital next day due to an acute respiratory deficiency.
After three days in critical condition, she suffered the embolism and died.
"She only underwent the procedure because she thought it was no big deal," said Guillermo Azar, another close friend of Magnano's.
Juan Carlos Seiler, former president of the Buenos Aires Association of plastic surgeons, suggested the doctor who performed the procedure might not have been "a real professional from an approved" cosmetic surgery centre.

While conveying my deepest condolences to the bereaved family of Solange Magnano, I would like to nail home the point as to how this incident once again proves the perils of cosmetic surgery. Just for an unnecessary reason a beautiful life is wasted. I always wish such incidents be given larger publicity so as to thwart any such further attempts. I say one must be counseled with the dangerous consequences, before they venture into such risky procedures. My heart is filled with sorrow and melancholy for the sad and untimely demise of Solange Magnano.
