Lucknow, Dec 17: A practicing doctor has been arrested from Bahraich district for producing ‘doctored’ currency in his house.

Fake currency worth Rs 1 lakh has also been seized from the doctor’s possession.

According to the police reports, Dr Latif Siddiqui, a BAMS degree holder from Aligarh Muslim University, according to his own admission, was using his clinic for circulating fake currency notes.

"He has confessed that he has already pumped Rs 10 lakhs into the market till now. He was using the fake currency to pay salaries to his employees and buying property in
Bahraich. We believe that he also pumped the fake currency in Nepal," said a senior police official.

Dr Latif Siddiqui is originally a resident of Nepalganj in Nepal, where he owns over 800 bighas of land. His wife and three children still live in Nepalganj. Two years ago, he
came to Bahraich where he set up a clinic.

Dr Siddiqui used his clinic to print fake currency notes and did not take much interest in running his clinic.

"Patients would come but the doctor would not be present at the clinic. We would often ask him to remain in the clinic during specified hours but he never paid attention to it.
Since he claimed to belong to a rich family, we did not suspect his lack of interest in the profession," said one of his employees on condition of anonymity.

The police, however, said that Dr Siddiqui did not seem to be a part of any larger racket and was printing and distributing fake currency notes on his own.

The police raided his clinic on Wednesday evening and arrested the doctor after receiving a tip-off from one of his patients.
