New Delhi, Dec. 25: The Punjab and Haryana High Court judge, Justice (retd.) R.L. Anand, who had ordered a Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) inquiry into the Ruchika Girhotra molestation and suicide case, on Friday said that Haryana politicians, specially the former Haryana chief minister, Mr Om Prakash Chautala, are lying as no effort was made to register even a FIR in the case in the initial eight years.

Justice Anand said, “I was the judge in the case. The incident occurred in August 1990. Ruchika committed suicide on December 28, 1993. And the first FIR was registered against the former state DGP S.P.S. Rathore in 1999. What happened during those eight years ? Why didn’t anybody in the government bother to register an FIR?” When asked about Mr Chautala’s claims that an FIR was registered on August 12, 1990, Justice Anand said, “It was not an FIR. The incident was noted only in the Daily Diary Register.”

“Every politician of the state tried his best to protect Rathore. The file related to the case kept moving from one place to another,” said Justice Anand.
