A quarrel over a petty issue took an ugly turn when an enraged wife set her husband, a police officer, on fire here, police said on Thursday.

The victim, 52-year-old assistant sub-inspector Balwant Pawar, sustained 85 per cent burns and is admitted to Government Medical College and Hospital, Aurangabad. Ironically, the incident took place on International Men's Day.

According to police, Pawar had a tiff with his wife over some petty issue on Wednesday night when he returned home. Irked over this, she poured kerosene over him and set him on fire, they said.

Pawar was working with the MIDC Cidco police station. The Begampura police have registered a case and are investigating further.

This is only an example of the actual treatment of men in this country. The discrimination and prejudice against them is extensive and unabated.

Yeah right! Women get abused/torched/assaulted/paraded naked/raped/murdered daily in this country, but that is no concern. When ONE woman does what men do to women all over the country, it is a big CONCERN. The discrimination and prejudice against WOMEN is such that the issue mentioned here is "petty". Does ANYone know what this petty issue was? Why is it that and issue raised by a MAN is justifiable and relevant while any issue raised by women seem to be PETTY???

This is the problem when we have no laws to protect men. No doubt she will be acquitted out of sympathy towards the fairer sex.
