Defamation suit against Vijayakanth dismissed

CMM J. Chandran has acquitted Vijayakant from the case as non-prosecution and non-appearance of Veeraswamy during the trial.

Chennai: The chief metropolitan magistrate (CMM), Egmore, has dismissed a criminal defamation petition filed by former DMK minister Arcot Veeraswamy against DMDK leader Vijayakanth.

CMM J. Chandran has acquitted Vijayakant from the case as non-prosecution and non-appearance of Veeraswamy during the trial. In the criminal defamation petition filed by Veeraswamy in 2007 stated that in a statement Vijayakanth alleged that income tax raid was conducted in his house in the instance of DMK.

Santhosh Kumar, advocate, who appeared on behalf of Vijayakanth submitted that the petition filed nine years ago and the prima-facie was also not made out.

The petitioner, Veeraswamy had not appeared before the court during the hearing repeatedly. Hence, the advocate sought for dismissal of the case and acquitting him from the case.
