Komatireddy jr soon in BJP fold, confirms party

HYDERABAD: Congress MLA from Munugode, Komatireddy Rajgopal Reddy, will join the BJP, notwithstanding convoluted explanations about his political plans that he put forward recently, top sources in the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) have confirmed.

It may be recalled that ever since news of Rajgopal Reddy’s meeting with Union home minister Amit Shah in Delhi earlier this month was reported, speculation about the Congress MLA’s political future was revived. Though Rajagopal Reddy had first said a couple of years ago about the possibility of joining the BJP, he was never clear about what he really wanted to do.

All that confusion is now over, a senior BJP leader said on Friday.

‘He said he needed some time to discuss it with his brother Venkat Reddy and then choose an auspicious day to join the party,” the BJP leader said.

Venkat Reddy represents Bhongir constituency in the Lok Sabha. Between the two brothers, it was believed that the Congress party pretty much has its status sewed up well in the former united Nalgonda district. While the Congress party has stepped up its efforts to convince Rajgopal Reddy to stay put in the party, the BJP is confident that the Munugode MLA will sooner than later begin carrying the BJP flag on his shoulder.

Though there was some speculation that Rajgopal Reddy might join the BJP during the state party president Bandi Sanjay Kumar’s padayatra, the party said as of now there were no such plans.
