Telangana MLA Jana to face party ire for soft stand on TRS

Another leader said complaints had been lodged against Mr Jana Reddy with the high command.

Hyderabad: The Congress Legislature Party’s scheduled meet on Monday, ahead of the short session of the Telangana State Assembly, will in all probability discuss Leader of Opposition in the Assembly K. Jana Reddy soft-pedalling issues concerning the TRS and ridiculing the statements made by Congress leaders, expo-sing the main opposition party to ridicule.

TPCC president N. Uttam Kumar Reddy, who will preside over the meet, Leader of Opposition in Council Shabbir Ali, and most party legislators are said to be unhappy over the series of statements issued by Mr Jana Reddy either in support of the TRS government or in ridiculing the statement of party leaders on certain issues in recent times.

“We are quite disturbed by his statements. We will ask him at the meeting to stick to the party line or quit the post,” said a senior leader. Another leader said complaints had been lodged against Mr Jana Reddy with the high command.

In a recent statement, Mr Jana Reddy had said there was no truth in Congress leaders’ claims that there was a previous agreement on the 152-metre height for the Tammidihatti barrage. This was contrary to what Mr Uttam Kumar Reddy had said.

“He has been embarrassing the Congress for long with his statements and the recent one landed the Cong-ress in trouble. He is issuing statements reg-ardless of the party’s stand,” said a leader.

When Mr Shabbir Ali and others demanded a CBI probe into the criminal network of gangster Nayeemuddin, after getting approval from the high command, Mr Jana Reddy issued a statement the next day saying a CBI probe was not necessary as the Special Investigation Team was doing a good job.

“The Assembly will to discuss the recent pact with the Maharashtra government, but before it takes place our leader has given a certificate to the government on the Tammidihatti barrage height,” a senior MLA pointed out.
