THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: UDF has decided to field Sulthan Bathery MLA I.C. Balakrishnan to the post of deputy speaker. This was decided by the Front allies after talks here. The election to the post of deputy speaker would be held on Wednesday. This is Mr. Balakrishnan's second term in the Assembly. Initially, Muslim League wanted to field to its candidate for the post.
But later League leaders relented after they realised that Congress is more eligible to hold the post. Opposition leader Ramesh Chennithala had organised an iftar party on Monday where it was formally decided to field Mr. Balakrishnan to the post. Election will be held on Wednesday at 9:30 am. Nominations can be filed till Tuesday 12:30 pm.
