Congress list includes all sitting MLAs

The KPCC leadership hopes to announce the final list on March 31.

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: All the sitting MLAs of the Congress have found a place in the list finalised by the KPCC election committee meeting here on Saturday. Except in Puthupally (Oommen Chandy), Haripad (Ramesh Chennithala), Aruvikkara (K.S. Sabarinathan) and Mananthawady (P. K. Jayalakshmy), the other 78 seats have more than three aspirants.

Mr Chandy, Mr Chennithala and KPCC president V. M. Sudheeran will go to New Delhi on Monday afternoon and present the list before the central screening committee. Mr Sudheeran told reporters that not many additions or deletions had been made in the list.

“We have decided to stick with the list submitted by the DCC leaders. The ball is in the AICC court to select the candidates. Also, all the sitting MLAs may not contest,” he said. The KPCC leadership hopes to announce the final list on March 31.

Meanwhile, the seat talks between the Congress and JD(U) failed again. The JD(U) demanded an additional seat other than the five already announced. JD(U) chairman M. P. Veerendra Kumar said that the Congress can contest in all the six seats if its demands are not met. RSP state secretary A. A. Azeez told reporters that Ullas Kovoor (Kunnathur), A. A. Azeez (Eravipuram) and Shibu Baby John (Chavara) would contest. The RSP will announce its remaining three seats later.

Posters have appeared in Angamaly under the banner of Save Congress saying that there are not enough KC (J) supporters there to be accommodated even in an autorickshaw.
