Bhainsa observes bandh over desecration of Ambedkar statue

As Dalit women protestors continued their agitation for a long time and refused to budge, the situation turned tense at a stage

ADILABAD: A large number of Dalits, including women, staged a rasta roko in Bhainsa on Monday demanding stern action against the person involved in desecration of Dr. B.R. Ambedkar’s statue in the town on Sunday.

Dalits also enforced a bandh in Bhainsa town and surrounding areas, including Mudhole and Kubheer.

Meanwhile, police have remanded the accused to judicial custody. Dalit protestors asked Bhainsa ASP Kiran Khare whether he had got the accused examined by a doctor before announcing that the person was mentally unstable.

As Dalit women protestors continued their agitation for a long time and refused to budge, the situation turned tense at a stage. Following this, Nirmal superintendent of police Praveen Kumar rushed to Bhainsa town. Dalit women withdrew their protests only after the SP promised to take stern action against the accused.

Dalit and Bahujan organisations also staged protests in Indravelli demanding that the state government take exemplary action against the person who has wantonly damaged Ambedkar’s statue in Bhainsa.

Representatives of these organisations Sarkare Shivaji, Mirza Arif Baig, Sone Kamble Babasaheb, Mirza Jilani Baig, Vikas Sone Kamble and Sandeep Bharadwaj submitted a memorandum to Indravelli tahasildar and SI on the issue.
