DMK meet for political gains, says AIADMK

VCK leader Thol. Thirumavalavan said he expected the meeting to announce a rally attended by ten lakh people to press for the CMB.

Chennai: The AIADMK and other parties on Tuesday opined that the DMK's all party meeting was aimed at making political gains and it would not be beneficial to the farmers.

Responding to the resolution calling for a special Assembly session to discuss the Cauvery issue, the ruling party said a resolution urging Prime Minister Narendra Modi to form the Cauvery Management Board had been passed in the Assembly in 2015 and submitted to the Prime Minister by the AIADMK MPs immediately.

The state government approached the Supreme Court after giving sufficient time to the Prime Minister to act, party spokesperson Vaigai Selvan said and asked why the same process should be re-started again.

Party spokesperson C.R.Saraswati said the all-party meeting had been convened by the DMK to gain politically in the bypolls to three constituencies in November 19.

VCK leader Thol. Thirumavalavan said he expected the meeting to announce a rally attended by ten lakh people to press for the CMB.

He opined that farmers representatives should call for the all party meeting for better results, while welcoming the resolutions. Union minister of state Pon. Radhakrishnan described the meeting as a political exercise by the DMK and its allies, besides those who want to be DMK's allies.
