T Harish Rao sets dam timeline

He accused the previous Congress regime of neglecting the project.

Hyderabad: Irrigation minister T. Harish Rao on Monday made a surprise visit to the Udaya Samudram project, that is proposed to provide drinking water and irrigation for the Munugode, Nakrekal and Nalgonda Assembly seats.

He told officials to to complete all related work by December so that water from Nagarjunasagar dam could be stored in the project.

He drew up a timeline for every aspect of work related to the project and asked officials and contract agencies to stick to schedule and complete the work. If not, he said, he would recommend termination of the agencies.

He said the approach canal and tunnel works were nearing completion and the surge pool would be completed to impound water at the Brahmana-Vellala reservoir under the Udaya Samudram project.

He instructed Nagar-junasagar project chief engineer S. Suneel to personally supervise the ongoing work and meet the time targets. He accused the previous Congress regime of neglecting the project.
