Thiruvananthapuram: Mathew T Thomas (54) entered politics during the student days after getting influenced by the JP movement and protesting against the imposition of emergency. He was enrolled as member of Kerala Vidhyarthi Janata way back in 1977.
Thomas was in the forefront of many students agitations in the state and got arrested several times. He served as Minister for Transport, printing and stationery for three years in the LDF government led by V S Achuthanandn in 2006. At the moment he is the state president of Janata Dal (Secular ). He was previously elected to the Kerala Assembly in 1987 and 2006.
