Hyderabad: The State Election Commission (SEC) has made all arrangements for counting of votes for the 120 municipalities and nine municipal corporation elections on Saturday.
Counting for the Karimnagar Municipal Corporation, where elections were held on Friday, will be taken up on January 27.
Briefing the media, SEC Commissioner V. Nagireddy, along with Municipal Administration Director Dr T.K. Sridevi, said that the results will be out by Saturday evening. Elections for the posts of chairpersons, vice-chairpersons, mayor and deputy mayor will be held on January 27.
If the votes were equal in the indirect election, the winner would be selected by lottery.
He said that political parties should give the names of the mayor and chairperson by A and B forms. He said that the A-Form submission is by 11 am on January 26 and B-Form submission by 10 am the next day.
Political parties may issue whip as per the annexure forms that are issued by the SEC.
Mr Reddy said that the model code of conduct will be in force till Saturday evening. He said the polling percentage for 120 municipalities was 74.40 and 58.83 per cent for the nine corporations.
Dr Sridevi said that ex-officio members also have the right to vote in the election of mayors and municipal chairpersons.
She explained that if there are more municipalities or corporations within the constituency of the MLA concerned or the MP, they should give the option to municipal commissioners before the conclusion of counting.
Responding to Minister G. Kamlakar’s comments after casting his vote in Karimnagar on Friday, he said that the SEC will examine it. If they found it to be in violation of election rules, the SEC will take appropriate action, including invoking criminal proceedings.
The Minister had disclosed that he had voted for the TRS and claimed that 70 per cent of voters had cast in favour of the ruling party.
