Over 1 lakh families in Puducherry to benefit from Ayushman Bharat

The beneficiary family would be entitled to healthcare expenses as in-patient in any of the empanelled institution for Rs 5 lakh per family.

Puducherry: The Puducherry health department is to take part in the Ayushman Bharat –Pradhan Mantri Jan Aarogya Yojana (AB-PMJAY) scheme.

According to the Directorate of Health and Family Welfare Services, the Union Territory of Puducherry will have 1.03 lakh families as beneficiaries of the scheme. The programme will be implemented by the health department in coordination with the stakeholders, including government hospitals and empanelled private institutions including private hospitals.

The beneficiary family would be entitled to healthcare expenses as in-patient in any of the empanelled institution to the tune of Rs 5 lakh per family.
“The beneficiary also has the freedom of portability to get treated from any of the approved hospitals within or outside the state,” a release from the health department said.

The authentication of the beneficiary would be done using Aadhar card and biometric scanning eligibility and a silver card is generated at designated centres. Subsequently, after the approval of the state nodal agency, a golden card will be generated to the beneficiary.

Puducherry Lt Governor Kiran Bedi inaugurated the scheme at Indira Gandhi Government hospital and Post Graduate Institute, which is the first institution to be rolled out in the program. She also presented the Ayushman Bharat Golden record to beneficiaries in the presence of Chief Secretary Ashwani Kumar, Health Secretary V Candavelou, Director of Health and Family Welfare Services KV Raman and other government officials.
