Avinash Jadhav wins Chincholi for BJP

With this twin victory of father and son, the Jadhavs have proved their sway over Kalaburagi.

Kalaburagi: In a further blow to the Congress party in Kalaburagi where veteran leader Mallikarjun Kharge suffered a humiliating defeat at the hands of the BJP's Umesh Jadhav in the LS polls, Jadhav's son and BJP candidate Dr Avinash Jadhav won the Chincholi Assembly bypoll by a margin of 8,030 votes defeating Congress candidate Subash Rathod.

With this twin victory of father and son, the Jadhavs have proved their sway over Kalaburagi. While Dr Jadhav secured 69,109 votes, Mr Rathod got 61079 votes. However the victory margin of Dr Jadhav in this by-election is far below the one registered by his father Umesh Jadhav in the 2018 assembly election. Then, Umesh Jadhav, who secured 73,109 votes, won by a margin of 19,212 votes against Bharatiya Janata Party’s Sunil Valyapure.

He later switched to BJP to take on Kharge in Kalaburagi LS seat forcing the Chincholi bypoll.
