CPM overestimating its strength, says TRS

CPM won't win even a single seat in 2019 polls: TRS leader Gattu Ramchander Rao.

Hyderabad: The TRS and BJP leaders lashed out at the CPM, calling the party outdated and irrelevant, in response to the CPM leaders’ criticism of their parties.

“The CPM cannot find candidates to contest even 19 seats in the Assembly elections, let alone all 119, and its leaders claim that the party will come to power in Telangana. They seem to have crossed the limits of day-dreaming,” said TRS MLC Karne Prabhakar, referring to CPM general- secretary Sitharam Yechury’s comment that the party would soon co-me to power in TS.

TRS leader Gattu Ramchander Rao said the CPM leaders had over-estimated their par-ty’s strength. He added that the CPM would not manage to win even a single seat in the 2019 elections.

Mr Rao also took a dig at CPM state secretary Tammineni Veerabha-dram for his comment that the party would not forge an electoral alliance with the TRS.

“Has the TRS approa-ched the CPM seeking a tie-up? It is always the Left parties that seek tie-ups with others, as they lack strength. The TRS is a party of the masses. It has been contesting elections independently, and winning them all, since 2014. There is no need for us to forge an electoral alliance with any party, especially not the CPM, which has no base or relevance in Telangana,” he said.

CPM leaders, while addressing a public mee-ting on Sunday, had said that the BJP was responsible for the current plight of the country.

BJP MLA G. Kishan Reddy responded by saying that major scams and corruption were rampant during the Cong-ress’ rule at the Centre. He said the CPM, which had supported the Congress, was equally to blame for the loss of public money and destruction natural resources.

“Communist parties do not have the support of the public. The leaders of the CPM should first think about why they lost power in West Bengal and Tripura, which were considered to be their strongholds. They do not have even a minimum level of presence in the Telugu states and they are day-dreaming about dethroning the BJP government at the Centre and coming to power in Telangana,” said BJP state president K. Laxman.
