Mysuru readies to host 83rd sahitya sammelana

Mysuru all set for the 83rd Akhila Bharatha Kannada Sahithya Sammelana.

Mysuru: With just a day to go for the 83rd Akhila Bharatha Kannada Sahithya Sammelana, Mysuru is readying to host the three- day literary fest with over 40,000 participants, for the fifth time after a gap of 27 years.

Kannada Sahithya Paraishat president , Manu Baligar revealed that besides literary aspects of the Kannada language, the discussions at the various symposiums would centre on agriculture, irrigation, technology , social justice, women, youth, children, sexual minorities, the oppressed classes and even the media at the main venue, the Maharaja’s college grounds, and also at the Maharaja’s college centenary hall and Kalamandira.

The resolutions will include one on saving the Karnataka State Open University and to prevent a new bill on Kuvempu University from being passed, according to him.

A welcome song, several promo videos and jingles are being created for the prestigious event. Its main stage has been named after Kuvempu to mark the 50th anniversary of his Jnanpith award, and has been designed on the lines of the Mysuru palace durbar hall. Arrangements are being made to accommodate 35,000 people at the the main venue , the Maharaja’s college grounds
Asked about allegations of corruption against past two presidents of the district Sahithya Parishat, Mr Baligar said its central audit committee had cleared them of the charges.

Meanwhile, Mysuru Deputy Commissioner, D Randeep said while the district had approached the government to provide Rs 10 crore for the literary event, it had sanctioned Rs 8 crore for it.
