Film reflects people's views: Pondicherry CM

The Film Certification Board, its chairman and members decide whether to give certification to a movie or not.

Puducherry: Puducherry Chief Minister V. Narayanasamy on Sunday waded into the row over the Vijay starrer Mersal, saying that the BJP is intolerant towards criticism and attempts to muzzle criticism.

“BJP had once again proved that they are intolerant towards criticism. Films had criticised the policies of the Central and state governments in the past also. It is ridiculous that the BJP and BJP- led government at the Centre are taking it as a direct criticism and demanding to ban the film and to delete dialogues”, said Mr Narayanasamy while talking to newspersons here.

The Film Certification Board, its chairman and members decide whether to give certification to a movie or not. They have certified the movie and BJP is making unnecessary controversies. The CM said that most people are against GST and demonetisation and this was reflected in the movie.

The dialogues in the film Mersal are not politically motivated, he said. The government should take a positive approach to the dialogues and should make changes in GST to make it people friendly, he added.

The movie Mersal landed in controversy following BJP leaders accused the movie of spreading misconceptions about central government schemes, including GST and Digital India.
