Kerala Pradesh Congress Committee high-power meet on Saturday

The meeting would also decide on the social and political issues and various party programmes until the party revamp.

Thiruvananthapuram: After a brief lull, KPCC office is going to be abuzz with activities when it would see the first sitting of the AICC-appointed high-power Political Affairs Committee happening on Saturday at 11:30 am. Apart from the 21-member committee, it would also see AICC general secretary and secretary-in-charge of the state, Mukul Wasnik and Dipak Babaria respectively, attending the preliminary sitting.

KPCC has not witnessed a major meeting taking place after the formation of PAC on Aug 31 at the behest of vice-president Rahul Gandhi to fix norms for revamping the party and the subsequent organisational elections. A top Congress leader told DC that Mr Wasnik would be reporting the AICC’s decision on how to move forward and what should be the criteria for the elections.

“The 21 member committee’s opinions too would be sought by the two. They would then report it to the Congress president Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi. Accordingly, a conclusion on how the high power committee should work and what is expected of it would be finalised,” said a member of the high power PAC. The meeting would also decide on the social and political issues and various party programmes until the party revamp. Contrary to earlier expectations, KPCC president V. M. Sudheeran will not be targeted at the meeting as the main motive is to finalise the party revamp and the elections smoothly.

Mr Sudheeran had earlier said that he would make his stand clear on former excise minister K. Babu facing vigilance raid at his Thripunithura home after the first sitting of the PAC. Another member of the high power committee said it was unlikely for Mr Sudheeran to speak to the media on controversial issues as the agenda was to set the stage for the party revamping and elections.

But it is reliably learnt that the Revive Congress team comprising of former national and State Youth Congress leaders will be writing to all the 21 committee members seeking their support to ‘revive’ the party from the doldrums. Mr Sudheeran will be chairing the high power committee meeting. Other members are Ramesh Chennithala, Oommen Chandy, K. Muraleedharan, P. C. Chacko, P. J. Kurien, K. C. Joseph, Thiruvanchoor Radhakrishnan, K. V. Thomas, M. I. Shanavas, K. Sudhakaran, K. C. Venugopal, Kodikunnil Suresh, V. D. Satheeshan, Benny Behanan, Shanimol Usman, T. N. Prathapan, P. C. Vishnunath and M. Liju.
