Karnataka Congress plans big protest against BJP's anti-Dalit stance'

Training his guns on PM Narendra Modi, Mr Rao said he was quick to tweet on world affairs, but remained silent on issues that mattered.

Bengaluru: Coming down hard on the attack on Dalits in Gujarat and taking strong objection to a BJP leader’s remarks against BSP supremo, Mayawati, the state Congress has decided to stage a protest against the saffron party’s “anti-Dalit” sentiments.

Announcing this to reporters here on Friday, KPCC working president, Dinesh Gundurao regretted that Dalits in Gujarat were flogged, humiliated and driven to desperation and death for doing what they had done for ages - skin a bovine carcass.

“Even more pathetic is a BJP leader’s statement against four-time UP CM Mayawati. This clearly shows that the BJP will always be against the minorities and Dalits,” he said.

Training his guns on PM Narendra Modi, Mr Rao said he was quick to tweet on world affairs, but remained silent on issues that mattered. Recalling that Mr Modi came to power in 2014 on the “Sab Ka Sath Sab Ka Vikas” slogan, he said events since then proved that his promises to be hollow.

“His talk about development for all has remained just that. Although Mr Modi keeps repeating these statements, when it comes to implementation, the Centre has failed the Dalits, only allocating Rs 63,000 crore for their development and reduced the quantum of subsidies given to them,” he charged.

Action against Marigowda
KPCC working president, Dinesh Gundu Rao on Friday said he would soon speak to CM Siddaramaiah about hastening police action against Mr Marigowda, accused of abusing Mysuru DC Shika. “Everyone is equal before the law. I am sure no one is protecting him,” he added.

Mr Rao denied that the party had organised screening of Rajnikanth’s “Kabali”. “A few MLAs in the city have given away tickets to their followers., This is neither anti-Kannadiga nor anti-Kannada culture. My followers too have asked me to help them get tickets,” he revealed.
