Thiruvananthapuram: The relations between the BJP and the BDJS have shown signs of straining with a section of party office-bearers alleging that SNDP Yogam general secretary Vellapally Natesan had given seats a few BDJS candidates in the assembly election on payment.
“There were ‘payment seats’ in the BJDS list,” the leaders told the BJP State office bearers' meeting. They said there was no proper tie-up between BJP and BDJS in constituencies like Peravoor in Kannur district as the latter did not seek the support of the local BJP leaders.
The BDJS had contested in 37 seats. A senior leader said the BDJS had worked in several constituencies without the support of the BJP.
“The same happened in the case of Kerala Pulayar Maha Sabha and the votes of the Pulaya community went to the Left candidates,” he said, adding that the State BJP leaders will hereafter come under the scanner of central leadership which will seek a regular progress report. “Each leader would have to come up with his or her progress report," he said.
BJP national president Amit Shah will convene the NDA’s steering committee meeting at Hotel Hyacinth here on Thursday at 9 am, followed by BJP state committee meeting to be attended by the newly-inducted members.
BJDS president Tushar Vellappally, Kerala Congress chairman P.C. Thomas, JSS faction led by A. N. Rajan Babu and Janathipathya Rashtriya Sabha’s C. K. Janu will attend the NDA meet.
