Centre has betrayed TN on CMB, says MK Stalin

Following the meeting, Stalin condemned both the state and central govt for failing to constitute the CMB empowering it with all statutory powers.

Chennai: DMK working president M. K. Stalin on Tuesday hit out at the Central government for “betraying” Tamil Nadu on the Cauvery issue.

“We condemn both the state and central governments, who have failed to constitute the Cauvery Management Board with all its statutory powers,” Mr. Stalin told reporters here after chairing the all-party meeting on Cauvery at his party state headquarters – Anna Arivalayam.

The meeting comes days after the Supreme Court approved the draft scheme drawn up by the Centre on distributing the Cauvery water among Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, Kerala and Puducherry. The meet expressed concern over the timely release of water to Tamil Nadu by Karnataka.

Following the meeting, Stalin condemned both the state and central government for failing to constitute the CMB empowering it with all statutory powers.

The ruling AIADMK government has said that it would study the draft scheme before deciding its course of action. Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Edappadi K. Palaniswami had reiterated that the Feb. 16 SC order clearly mentioned that the Cauvery Management Authority has full powers and the decision to release water would not be left to the Karnataka government.
