Work on Nizamabad MLAs' houses keeps dragging on

Controversies flared up over selection of site, quality of construction.

Nizamabad: Construction of official residences to MLAs in their respective Assembly constituency headquarters has been going at snail’s pace.

Controversies flared up over selection of the site and quality of construction in few segments. The TRS government took a decision to construct official residences for MLAs after it came to power in late 2014.

In undivided Nizamabad district, few MLAs were facing criticism for delay in the works as their tenure is nearing completion. Armoor MLA A. Jeevan Reddy laid the foundation stone for official residences on Sunday as site clearance was received after a long gap. The MLA wanted to construct the building at tahsil office premises in Armoor.

But district officials objected that the tahsil office is not suitable as MLAs residences. Due to this, the MLAs strived hard to get permission from the government. Meanwhile, Nizamabad rural MLA Bajireddy Govardhan selected Transco sub-station site at Aryanagar in Nizamabad as its residence.

Opposition parties demanded construction of rural MLA official residence in Dichpally, which is idle for entire Nizamabad rural assembly constituency. They also staged protest against the decision of MLA. In Jukkal assembly constituency, disparities were noticed in construction of MLA official building. Kamareddy collector N. Satyanarayana directed to rectify the lapses.

Speaking to this correspondent, R&B superintending engineer Madhusudan Reddy said that nine MLA official residences, Nizamabad urban, Bodhan segments were completed. Kamareddy, Yellareddy, Banswada works under progress, he said. Balkonda MLAs official residence will be constructed at Padigel village in Velpur mandal as tenders will be finalised soon, he explained.

The state government has sanctioned '1 crore for each building with 600 square yards. Earlier, contractors did not came forward to take up the work, but few MLAs have taken up the initiate to complete the work.
