Pondicherry CM seeks intervention of Sushma to release youths held in Libya

The two brothers had contacted Irudayaraj and informed that the private firm had promised to help them in two months.

Puducherry: Puducherry Chief Minister V. Naryanasamy sought the intervention of external affairs minister Sushma Swaraj for the release of two youths from Puducherry held in Libya for entering the country without valid documents.
Irudayaraj of Lawspet area here in a memorandum has urged the Chief Minister to take steps to rescue his two sons, working as ship assistants in a private shipping company.

James Antony, 22, and Lourdu Augustin, 25, had left Puducherry in June and were taken into custody in August on their arrival in a port in Libya along with 13 others.

According to Irudayaraj, the ship was proceeding to Libya from Turkey via Malda, where the Libyan Navy intercepted and verified the travel documents and 15 crew members were arrested and taken into custody on charges of entering the country without valid documents.

The two brothers had contacted Irudayaraj and informed that the private firm had promised to help them in two months. Though the father had repeatedly requested the company's intervention in rescuing his sons, nothing happened so far.

So Irudayaraj sought the intervention of territorial administration in releasing his sons. The Chief Minister in his letter to Ms Swaraj sought her intervention in releasing the two young siblings.

The Chief Minister had also sent another letter seeking her intervention to ensure the release of 10 fishermen from Karaikal who were arrested by the Sri Lankan Navy and confiscated their boats.
