Bypolls: Model code in place

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Chief Electoral Officer Teeka Ram Meena on Saturday said the model code of conduct has come into being in the state in connection with the bypolls to be held in five assembly constituencies.

Mr Meena told DC that the chief minister , ministers, top officials, police and district administration have been apprised of the model code of conduct. While the model code of conduct will be applicable only in the Assembly constituency area in Vattiyoorkavu with Thiruvananthapruam being the state capital, in other places it will be enforced in the entire district where the constituency falls. Hence the model code of conduct will be in force in Kasarogd, Ernakulam, Alappuzha and Pathanamthitta districts from Saturday.

The returning officers for the by-polls will be deputy collectors and SDM while the collectors would be over all in charge. The collectors have been asked to assess the security situation which are going to polls and submit feedback to the CEO.
