FIRs against MK Stalin, 60 others for unlawful assembly

The Leader of the opposition Stalin and 78 other party MLAs were suspended for a week by Assembly Speaker P. Dhanapal on Wednesday.

Chennai: The Fort police station registered two FIRs against opposition leader M.K. Stalin and 60 others for unlawful assembly without permission in a restricted area.

The first FIR was registered on August 18 when the DMK MLAs staged a dharna in front of the Assembly while the second one was registered on August 19 after DMK MLAs and members conducted a mock assembly outside the state Secretariat to protest the mass suspension of MLAs from the Assembly.

The city police top brass on Saturday night transferred out Flower Bazaar Deputy Commissioner R. Sakthivel and gave additional charge to Washermenpet DC, S. Jayakumar. The Fort police station comes under the Flower Bazaar DC's jurisdiction.

Police said that DMK treasurer and Leader of Opposition M.K. Stalin and DMK MLAs, including deputy leader Durai Murugan, have been booked for violation of a regulatory order inside the State Secretariat.

The Leader of the opposition Stalin and 78 other party MLAs were suspended for a week by Assembly Speaker P. Dhanapal on Wednesday. Next day they sat on dharna after Stalin was not allowed to go to his room in Fort St George and on Friday a mock Assembly was held by the suspended MLAs.

These cases were booked against them under bailable provisions of Indian Penal Code under Sections 143 (being a member of an unlawful assembly) and 188 (Disobedience to an order lawfully promulgated by a public servant).

The first FIR was registered in connection with incident happened on August 18, at the gate number 4 of state secretariat Thursday at around 10.30 am, based on complaint from sub inspector Balu, while the second FIR is registered in connection with the incident took place on August 19 based on a complaint from SI Tamilselvi.
