M Karunanidhi demands probe panel into EC conduct

EC should have asked the views of major parties, he said justice would be denied till this kind of Election Commissions existed, he added.

Chennai: DMK leader M. Karunanidhi on Saturday demanded an enquiry commission on the functioning of the Election Commission from the commencement of election works.

Listing the seizure of cash at several places in the State, Karunanidhi asked "What the EC has done about it?" Despite the seizure of several crores of money, no FIR had been registered and no one had been arrested, he said.
While cash distribution was alleged in all the constituencies, the EC had postponed elections in only two constituencies. It has postponed it to three weeks after the BJP and PMK approached the court.

The EC should have asked the views of major parties, he said justice would be denied till this kind of Election Commissions existed, he added. In another statement, he cited reports of Centre preparing to issue an ordinance to postpone the common entrance test for medical seats at the national level and said the report was later denied by the Union health minister.

Blaming the Centre of confusing the students on a major issue and causing anxiety among them, he said the Union government should clearly and firmly come out with a good announcement that there would be no such tests for TN students in future.
