Probe Sasikala on Jayalalithaa's death: Deepa's husband

He said Sasikala, who is currently serving four-year jail term in disproportionate assets (DA) case, should be interrogated.

Chennai: Jailed AIADMK leader V. K. Sasikala, her family members and others residing in the Veda Nilayam residence of late chief minister J. Jayalalithaa should be interrogated to bring out the truth in her death, Deepa Jayakumar's husband Madhavan pleaded before the Justice A. Arumughaswamy Commission on Monday.

Madhavan, husband of Jayalalithaa's niece Deepa, submitted a detailed memorandum at the commission's office here demanding that the probe should also go into who prevented political leaders from across the country in meeting Jayalalithaa when she was admitted to Apollo Hospitals for 75 days last year.

Madhavan raised 19 questions in his memorandum and asked the commission to go into the circumstances that led to the hospitalisation of Jayalalithaa and why her body was embalmed before it was handed over to Sasikala family.

“I have asked the commission to bring everyone who would have benefited from her death into the ambit of investigation. We are at loss to understand why her (Jayalalithaa's) body was embalmed. What was the need to embalm her body when she was laid to rest within 24 hours of her passing away? This leads to doubts whether she had died much earlier,” Madhavan said.

He said Sasikala, who is currently serving four-year jail term in disproportionate assets (DA) case, should be interrogated.

Recalling members of Sasikala's family surrounding Jayalalithaa's body at the Rajaji Hall where it was kept for public viewing, he sought to know why the very people removed by the late chief minister were back in her Poes Garden residence immediately after her death.

“Sasikala entered Poes Garden only after she assured Jayalalithaa that she will not have truck with her family members. How did the family members of Sasikala gain access to her hospital room? All these things should be investigated,” Madhavan said.

The husband of Jayalalithaa's niece also sought to know why Sasikala did not take good care of Jayalalithaa's health, when her family took pains to air dash an accident victim to Chennai to perform organ transplant on her husband M Natarajan.

“If they can offer high-quality treatment and perform organ transplant on Natarajan with so much care and concern, why did not they offer same treatment to Amma (Jayalalithaa)? This should be probed,” he said.
