MK Stalin is my heir, says DMK chief Karunanidhi

Veteran leader ruled out his immediate retirement from active politics as he believes in giving “retirement a retirementâ€.

CHENNAI: DMK chief M. Karunanidhi has said his younger son M.K. Stalin, who has toiled for the party since his student days, was his natural political successor. However, the veteran leader ruled out his immediate retirement from active politics as he believes in giving “retirement a retirement”.

In an interview to a Tamil magazine, the 93-year-old Dravidian stalwart said he believes in giving “rest to rest” and work tirelessly for the party and the state of Tamil Nadu. He was responding to a question on whether he was pondering from retiring from active politics and handing over the baton to Mr Stalin.

“Don’t create confusion by saying that I am unwilling to vacate my chair to Stalin. The truth is that Stalin has been actively assisting me in carry out my responsibilities in the party,” the DMK chief said.

To a question on who was his political heir, the five-time TN Chief Minister said that the choice had always been his younger son, Mr Stalin.
