Presidential poll: No cross vote in both Telangana, AP

In Telangana, out of all the 117 MLAs who voted (two did not vote), 97 voted for Ram Nath Kovind while Meira Kumar got 20 votes.

Hyderabad: Not a single MLA vote that was cast in Telangana in the Presidential elections was invalidated and both candidates Ram Nath Kovind and Meira Kumar got votes as per their stated strength.

Unlike in some states, no cross voting was reported in either camps when the election official results were declared on Thursday. However, three MLAs votes from the Andhra Pradesh got invalidated due to wrong marking.

In Telangana, out of all the 117 MLAs who voted (two did not vote), 97 voted for Ram Nath Kovind while Meira Kumar got 20 votes. The value of each MLA vote is 132 in Telangana.

Accordingly, Mr Kovind got 12,804 votes (132 x 97) and Meira Kumar got 2,640 votes (132 x 20). Meira Kumar got 13 votes from the Congress, six from the MIM and one from a CPM MLA. Similarly, Mr Kovind got 89 TRS, five BJP, and three TDP votes.

Out of the 174 eligible MLAs from Andhra Pradesh, 171 votes went in favour of NDA candidate Kovind, while three votes were declared invalid.

UPA nominee Meira Kumar did not get a single vote from Andhra Pradesh primarily because the Congress did not have a single MLA, who could vote for her. The value of each AP MLA vote is 159 and accordingly Ram Nath Kovind got 27,189 (159 X 171) votes in his favour, while the value of the invalid votes of the three MLAs was 477.
