TTV Dhinakaran's election upheld in Madras high court

The complaints sent by the election petitioner to the Election Commission falls short of material facts. The complaints are vague and bald.

Chennai: Rejecting a petition challenging the election of TTV Dhinakaran as MLA from RK Nagar Assembly Constituency, the Madras high court upheld his election held in December last year. When an election petition filed by ML Ravi, an independent candidate in the bypolls held on December 21 last year, Justice G. Jaichandran said, “The complaints sent by the election petitioner to the Election Commission falls short of material facts. The complaints are vague and bald.”

The judge said, “The reading of the election petition and the affidavit accompanying the petition does not make out any specific material fact which specifically attributes to TTV Dhinakaran for corrupt practices. The petitioner is unable to say who gave notes for votes to whom.”

While referring to a Supreme Court order, the judge said, “The will of the people of RK Nagar constituency reflected in the returned candidate as their representative to the Assembly. He should not be dragged to contest vague allegations based on reports in social media and press without any substantiate and corroborative materials.”
