BJP sees itself viable third option

The NDA secured 20 lakh votes more than in the last elections, an increase of nine percent.

Thiruvananthapuram: The BJP core committee meeting held on Friday opined that the party could position itself as the third alternative in the state. As per the estimate presented at the meeting, the BJP got 30.20 lakh votes, the CPM 58.70 lakhs and the Congress 48.39 lakhs.

The NDA secured 20 lakh votes more than in the last elections, an increase of nine percent, while the LDF could increase its vote share by 8.9 lakh votes only, the estimate pointed out. The BJP could get 12 lakh votes more than that in the last Lok Sabha polls held two years ago.

In three constituencies, the party got more than 50,000 votes and in eight constituencies, more than one third of the total votes. In seven constituencies, it came second, where it could not win because of the cross-voting by the UDF and the LDF. This was evident in Manjeswaram, Vattiyoorkavu and Kazhakuttom. Both the front did it to defeat the BJP, as per the party’s evaluation.
