THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan on Thursday said after coming to power Prime Minister Narendra Modi had relegated India’s role to that of a junior war partner of the US. At a time when the US was altering its arms policy to help the arms dealers, Modi was playing along with the Americans, Pinarayi said while inaugurating the national conference of All India Peace and Solidarity Organisation (AIPSO).
He said Modi skipping the NAM was a pointer to the fact that India had abandoned the non-alignment policy. There is a criticism that the Prime Minister did not attend the funeral of Cuban leader Fidel Castro to please the US. The chief minister said at a time when people across the world were yearning for peace the Prime Minister was abandoning the path of non-alignment. He recalled that Jawahar Lal Nehru had created NAM drawing essence from country’s Freedom Movement.
He said with Modi coming to power, the extent of subservience to the US had grown manifold. “We will witness India supporting the US if the latter were to launch a war against Russia,” the chief minister added. CPM general secretary Sitaram Yechury, CPI national secretary D Raja, revenue minister E Chandrashekharan, Binoy Viswam, K P Rajendran. CPI state secretary Kanam Rajendran presided over the session.
