Kannur politicians to sing a different tune

Kozhikode MP and Kannur native M.K. Raghavan told DC that he would definitely sing at the three-hour programme.

Kozhikode: Politicians often speak about harmony, but rarely sing. But in Kannur at least, they will sing a different tune on violence in the politically volatile district. The initiative for this has been taken by ‘Harmony Club,’ a newly-floated musical forum comprising politicians. The leaders of different parties will sing their hearts out to spread the message of harmony on a common platform at Kannur collectorate grounds at 6 p.m. on May 6.

The participants consisting of 21 politicians include Port Minister Ramachandran Kadannapally, MPs P.K. Sreemathi and M.K. Raghavan, MLAs M.K. Muneer and P.B. Abdul Razak, CPI leader Panniyan Raveendran, Forward Bloc leader G. Devarajan, former minister K.P. Mohanan, BJP Kannur district president P. Sathyaprakash, his predecessor K. Ranjith, Congress leaders P. Ramakrishnan and A.P. Abdullakutty, and former MLA and CPM leader K.V. Kunjiraman. A good number of them are Kannur natives.

“The politicians want to convey to the public that they are for peace. The allegation against Kannur leaders is that they always flex their muscles. That charge should be cleared,” says Ashraf Puravoor, general convenor of ‘Harmony Club,’ who is also the district vice-president of JD (S).

Mr M.K. Muneer and Mr Ramachandran Kadannapally are known singers in political circles. According to Mr Puravoor, the politicians will sing a song of their choice with orchestra conducted by singer Azeez Thayineri.

A rehearsal will be conducted on the previous day. Kozhikode MP and Kannur native M.K. Raghavan told DC that he would definitely sing at the three-hour programme. DCC general secretary Rasheed Kavvayi is the chairman of the club.
